Campervan Hire in Australia: Compare Route, Layout and Return Fit
Choose an Australian campervan quote only if the named vehicle fits the exact route, sleeping and bathroom needs, kilometre allowance and return plan; then compare all charges shown.[2][3][5][6]

Start with road permission, not the daily rate
A vehicle labelled “4X4” is not automatically approved for every road. Wicked markets campervans and 4WD campers but does not give road-by-road permissions on its cited page.[3]
- List the route: Record every intended road, side trip and likely alternative.
- Flag uncertain sections: Note sealed and unsealed roads, water crossings and possible seasonal restrictions.
- Shortlist the class: Decide whether the route appears to require a 2WD campervan, motorhome or 4WD camper.
- Get written confirmation: Give the supplier the roads, vehicle and dates, then ask which sections are permitted, prohibited or conditional.
The cited Britz and Wicked supplier pages and Camper Champ and Campervan Finder comparison pages do not state road-by-road permissions, water-crossing conditions, recovery exclusions or the consequences of unauthorised travel.[2][3][5][6] Keep the supplier’s answer with the dated quote and rental conditions.
Compare route class, berths and facilities
Use the same three checks for each vehicle: route class and permission, seats and berths, then kitchen and bathroom facilities.
Apollo Euro Tourer 2-Berth
- Route: Camper Champ’s listing does not identify the route class or permitted roads.[5]
- Capacity: It is listed as a 2-berth vehicle.[5]
- Facilities: The listing displays a toilet and shower; the detailed kitchen inventory and bathroom layout are not stated.[5]
Britz Maverick 2-Berth
- Route: It is listed as a 4WD, but the listing gives no exact road permissions.[5]
- Capacity: It is listed as a 2-berth vehicle.[5]
- Facilities: No toilet or shower is shown beside the listing, and detailed kitchen specifications are not stated.[5]
Wicked D5 4X4 Adventure Camper
- Route: Wicked identifies it as a 4WD but does not state road-by-road permissions.[3]
- Capacity: It has two seats and sleeps two.[3]
- Facilities: Wicked lists a gas cooker and fridge but does not confirm an onboard toilet or shower.[3]
Other listings displaying both a toilet and shower include the Apollo Euro Deluxe 6; Britz 2-Berth ST Venturer and 6-Berth Frontier; Maui Beach; Cruisin 6-Berth Discovery and 4-Berth Seeker; Mighty 6-Berth Big Six; and Leisure Rent 4-Berth 2019.[5]
No toilet or shower is shown for the listed Britz Warrior, Scout, Outback and manual Safari Landcruiser; Apollo manual Adventure Camper and Trailfinder/X-Terrain; or manual Cheapa Trailfinder 4WDs.[5] Treat this as an absence from the listing, not proof that every vehicle supplied has the same configuration.
Reconcile kilometre claims before comparing prices
Britz says its Australian daily rate includes unlimited kilometres for 2WD campervans, while 4WD vehicles include 300 kilometres a day.[2] Apply the allowance for the class being quoted, not the broader 2WD inclusion.
Wicked’s page promotes “unlimited kilometers”, but also says allowances vary by vehicle and route; its FAQ limits unlimited kilometres to the East Coast and Tasmania.[3] The vehicle-specific quote needs to resolve this difference.
Record four figures or conditions for each quote:
- Included distance: the allowance for the selected vehicle and itinerary;
- Expected distance: the planned route plus likely changes;
- Excess terms: any charge or restriction for exceeding the allowance; and
- Route effect: whether changing regions alters the inclusion.
The cited Britz and Wicked pages do not give model-specific excess-kilometre prices.[2][3] Also keep kilometre allowance separate from road permission: included distance does not establish which roads are authorised.
Check pickup and one-way return locations
A location appearing in a comparison search does not establish that a particular vehicle is available for the required depot pair, dates and times.[5][6]
Wicked
- Locations: Wicked states that it has 11 Australian locations, including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Cairns, Perth, Adelaide and Darwin.[3]
- One-way hire: It permits one-way hire between many Australian locations.[3]
- Quote check: Confirm the exact vehicle, depot pair, dates and collection and return times.
Britz
- Locations: Campervan Finder lists Britz in Adelaide, Alice Springs, Brisbane, Broome, Cairns, Darwin, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.[6]
- One-way hire: The cited page does not confirm exact Britz one-way route pairs.[6]
- Quote check: Obtain confirmation for the vehicle, locations, dates and collection and return times.
Camper Champ’s search includes Broome, Alice Springs, Airlie Beach, Hobart and Launceston and says one-way rentals are available.[5] Campervan Finder allows different pickup and return locations and lets users specify times.[6]
Compare the quoted one-way or relocation charge with the extra fuel and driving time required to return to the original depot, as Camper Champ recommends.[5] RatPack estimates one-way fees at $150–$1,000 depending on distance and company, but the live supplier quote should determine the comparison.[4]
Build a like-for-like final quote
Use identical inputs for every quote:
- Trip details: Enter the same pickup and return locations, dates and times, driver age, country and licence details.[5][6]
- Vehicle requirements: Use the required passenger, seat and berth counts, then specify whether the trip needs a 2WD, 4WD or bathroom-equipped vehicle.[3][5]
- Inclusions and charges: Record the kilometre allowance, one-way charge, liability terms and deposit, bedding, kitchen equipment, camping furniture, GPS, Wi-Fi and other extras shown in the final quote.[2][3][5][6]
Britz describes linen, bedding, kitchen equipment and general living equipment as included with its campervans. It also says its standard Low Road liability option includes vehicle damage and third-party-property insurance, while a liability deposit still applies.[2]
Do not assume a daily price. Campervan Finder says it has no live rates and that pricing depends on season, hire duration, availability, location and supplier negotiation.[6]
What to confirm with each provider
The cited supplier and comparison pages do not establish every trip-specific term below.[2][3][5][6] Before payment, have the dated quote and rental conditions state:
- exact permitted and prohibited roads, including conditions for unsealed roads and water crossings;
- bed dimensions, child-seat compatibility, luggage limits and bathroom configuration;
- kitchen inventory, water capacity and battery or off-grid limits;
- depot hours, after-hours procedures and minimum hire period;
- the exact one-way route pair and relocation charge;
- fuel policy, liability amount, bond or deposit, cleaning fees and excess-kilometre charges;
- cancellation and refund terms; and
- the live vehicle price and cost of each optional extra.
Choose the quote that covers the authorised route, workable sleeping layout, required facilities, planned distance and return arrangement after all listed charges. Save the dated quote and rental conditions documenting the permissions, inclusions and fees.
